Six farmers with different goals explore biologicals on their farms

When it comes to the value of biologicals, there’s a lot of noise and a healthy dose of skepticism. Frontier Fields cuts through the clutter by following six farmers who will provide their insights and observations as they trial biologicals through the year.

    STRESSORS INTO SUCCESSES

Ryan Drozd and Andrew Focht have had their fair share of challenges this season, facing torrential rains in Michigan and blasts of wind and hail in Iowa. Despite the temperamental Midwest weather, their crops are growing strong with a boost from BioPath®.

See how Ryan and Andrews’s fields are weathering the growing season on the latest episode of Frontier Fields!

    Meet the Frontier Fields Farmers

From large farms to small, experience with biologicals or just starting out — each farmer shares a unique perspective that can help you as you make your own decisions on if, where and how to use biologicals.

Check back monthly for the latest updates about each farm.

    Granvil Travis

    Belknap, IL

Generational success drives Granvil every year. Farming is what he knows and loves, and as the only family member in his generation farming full time, he wants to keep it going so his daughters, nephews and young cousins have the chance to farm if they choose to follow in his footsteps.

    Dave Schrock

    Bremen, IN

When farming is in your blood, you just can’t get away from it – even if a new heart is pumping that blood through your veins. Such is the case for Dave, who comes from a long line of farmers, but whose path to full-time farming was full of twists and turns.

    Jake Drozd

    Allegan, MI

When yields are at stake, rest assured that Jake is paying attention. Farming 7,500 acres of corn, soy and milo spread across three counties near the Eastern shore of Lake Michigan, this national yield contest winner strives for high yields with his dad and brother. And he knows his soil is the key.

    Brooks Reid

    Brunswick, MO

Soil science and biology are a passion for Brooks Reid, who is a trained agronomist, but he loves seeing how concepts actually work in practice. He’s learned the most by “doing” and wants to help pass that insight to other farmers.

    Andrew Focht

    Villisca, IA

With family roots tied to farming, Andrew decided to start his own farm just three years ago. With a past career as a soil technician for USDA NRCS, and a current owner of a financial planning business, he uses his background to make the most of his 650 acres of corn.

    Ryan Drozd

    Allegan, MI

For Ryan and his family, farming together makes good sense (and cents). While his brother Jake drives their agronomic choices, Ryan is the financial guy making sure each decision they make results in a profit at the end of the season.

    Frontier Fields: Episode 7

Despite the turbulent planting season and the summer heat, humidity and rain — Brooks Reid and Granvil Travis are happy to watch their crops grow strong. They’re also looking forward to see how BioPath® continues to help their growing crops.
