The Mosaic Company is pleased to announce the six winners of its recent Harvest Heroes contest, which recognizes those who have gone above and beyond to make the harvest season easier. Because celebrating the resilience and spirit of the agriculture community has never been more important.
The Harvest Heroes contest, sponsored by MicroEssentials®, a phosphate-based fertilizer from The Mosaic Company, acknowledges people who have helped out in big or small ways to ensure a safe and successful harvest season. Individuals in the agriculture community were invited to nominate those in their life who have made impactful contributions, both in the ordinary and extraordinary ways.
The six winners come from around the U.S. and were selected for their noteworthy stories:
Jenna Binde from Crosby, North Dakota – Jenna was selected as the grand prize winner and will receive the Super Harvest Hero Prize pack for her inspirational contributions. When a local farmer was hospitalized during harvest, Jenna helped organize neighbors and friends to harvest his 1,000 acres, haul his hay and move his cattle while he was out of commission.
Barbara Sloan from Williamsville, Illinois – Barb took over the farm after her husband passed away in 2009 and, at age 74, is using her new CDL license to run equipment and help on her family’s operation.
Wesley Thomas from Elizabethtown, Kentucky – Wesley gave birth to her and her husband’s first child just a week before harvest started this year, but didn’t miss a beat supporting the harvest crew, delivering dinners to fields and moving equipment – on top of caring for a newborn.
Timothy Boerner from Chetek, Wisconsin – Tim has nearly 40 years of experience as an agronomist, providing invaluable scouting reports for clients. This year, he started providing expertise for Agri-View’s “From the Field Report,” as well as his other reporting duties. His customers praise his problem-solving skills, understanding of multiple ag systems and the care he takes to communicate, especially during a challenging year.
Gavin Held from Faribault, Minnesota – After family friends unexpectedly found themselves farming solo this year, Gavin stepped in to help them out with everything from moving equipment, running the combine, grabbing parts or other needs. He was there day or night to ensure harvest was pulled off this year.
Erik Hill from Dixon, Illinois – Nominated by his mother, Erik is praised as being an exceptionally hard worker who shows up to help his family all year long with chores, field work, working cattle and more, in addition to working full-time off the farm, utilizing his degree in ag business.
“We are proud to recognize some of the most selfless, hardworking and kind people in the agriculture community through the Harvest Heroes contest,” said Mindy Dale, senior brand manager, The Mosaic Company. “We celebrate the grit and determination it takes to make harvest happen with this contest as a token of our gratitude.”
The winners will be delivered prize packages which include a YETI® cooler and a selection of items from The Mosaic Company and SharkFarmer to thank them for their contributions. As the Super Harvest Hero, Jenna Binde also receives a DeWalt® jobsite radio with battery charger and will be featured in an upcoming episode of the SharkFarmer podcast.
