Phosphates

Phosphorus, one of three primary crop nutrients required for plant growth, is often referred to as “The Energizer” for its role in converting the sun’s energy into food, fuel and fiber.

Introduction

Mosaic's phosphate products, most commonly referred to as diammonium phosphate (DAP) and monommonium phosphate (MAP), are a source of phosphorus and nitrogen and provide vital crop nutrition to the global agricultural community. Mosaic’s phosphate products are created by reacting ammonia and phosphoric acid to produce a solid, granulated fertilizer. MAP and DAP can be applied directly to the soil using conventional spreading equipment. To learn more, view our phosphate products below.

Diammonium Phosphate (DAP) 18-46-0

DAP is the most widely used phosphate fertilizer among growers today. It is manufactured by reacting phosphoric acid and ammonia and contains two ammonia molecules. In alkaline soil conditions, one of the ammonia molecules in DAP will revert to ammonia, making it an excellent fit for low pH or alkaline soil. DAP itself is alkaline with a high pH, exceeding 7.5.

Monoammonium Phosphate (MAP) 10-50-0

Completely water soluble, MAP is generally applied in the granular form and used in the formulation of suspension fertilizers. Though it is also available as a powder, the granular material mixes well and frequently serves as an ingredient in bulk-blended fertilizers. With its low pH levels, MAP is best used for high-alkaline soils. It is an ideal starter fertilizer because MAP contains less ammonia-nitrogen than DAP, reducing potential seed damage.

Monoammonium Phosphate (MAP) 11-52-0

Completely water soluble, MAP is generally applied in the granular form and used in the formulation of suspension fertilizers. Though it is also available as a powder, the granular material mixes well and frequently serves as an ingredient in bulk-blended fertilizers. With its low pH levels, MAP is best used for high-alkaline soils. It is an ideal starter fertilizer because MAP contains less ammonia-nitrogen than DAP, reducing potential seed damage.
