Keith Thibeau
Fort Fairfield, ME | Season 2Keith Thibeau describes farming as a “purposeful challenge.” As a fifth-generation farmer, he’s always learning and exploring new technologies to help improve and add value to the family farm. One of the latest technologies under his microscope is biologicals.

What drives Keith to continue farming despite its challenges can be summed up in three things:
A purposeful challenge.
A quality harvest delivered directly to consumers.
The smell of soil in the spring.
Fertility Program
Based on soil sample results, Keith applies lime and potash, tailored to the specific needs of the soil and his crop. He pairs this approach with rotational “green manure” to enhance soil fertility and structure.
All fertility inputs are in dry form, with most applied at planting. He also uses in-furrow biologicals alongside fungicides to increase nutrient availability and uptake.
Why biologicals?
Curiosity is what drove Keith to test biologicals again this year.
He’d heard fellow farmers talk about their potential to unlock nutrients in the soil —and combined with the science he’s seen, the potential of biologicals was too appealing to leave uninvestigated this season.
